Yu Shaolin: Born in 1974, a native of Kunming, Yunnan Province, a Christian, a preacher at Kunming’s “Century Xincheng Church,” and a Chinese prisoner of conscience in detention.

His early life was turbulent. He became addicted to drugs after long-term immersion in the local nightlife, and his health gradually deteriorated; after years of struggle, he accepted the Christian faith and successfully overcame his drug addiction, bringing about a fundamental change in his inner life; however, the long-term damage caused by drugs left him with multiple chronic illnesses, including thalassemia, leukemia, liver damage and renal insufficiency, leaving him physically extremely weak; after overcoming his addiction, he devoted himself to becoming a new person and invested his energy locally in Kunming, providing companionship and faith counseling for drug users, marginalized groups and the sick; to this end, he joined a house church in Kunming called “Century Xincheng Church,” whose members were mostly people suffering from depression, cancer patients and socially disadvantaged groups; because he served enthusiastically in the church and often undertook preaching, visitation and pastoral work, he ultimately became the church’s principal preacher; however, because the church where he served was unwilling to join the official “Three-Self” church control system, it was subjected to suppression by the official authorities for a long period, but his fellow church workers continued to insist on holding weekly gatherings and conducting care ministries;

On April 12, 2026, while Century Xincheng Church was holding its Sunday gathering, it was raided by multiple police officers from Guandu District, Kunming. He and his fellow workers Li Qun and Luo Ping were taken away, and the police also subjected multiple church members to intensive questioning; afterward, he, Li Qun and Luo Ping were placed under criminal detention on the grounds that they had organized and participated in an “illegal religious activity site”; on May 20, the three were formally arrested by Guandu District police on suspicion of “organizing illegal gatherings”; on September 2, 2026, a pretrial conference was held in their case, which entered the trial process, and the trial will formally open on September 16; since his arrest, his health in the detention center has been extremely fragile, and his family has consequently endured enormous psychological and health pressure. His wife, who previously suffered from an adrenal tumor and high blood pressure, has recently experienced a worsening of her condition.

He is currently detained at the Guandu District Detention Center in Kunming.
