On September 16, 2026, this outlet learned that in 2014, the China Tibetology Research Center completed in Beijing the voluminous so-called academic project A General History of Tibet and submitted it for review. Before submission, the Contemporary Volume contained highly detailed material concerning China’s suppression of Tibet after the launch of reform and opening up, as well as such extensive topics as Tibetan-Chinese dialogue and Tibetan-Taiwan exchanges. Before the book was officially published, all of this content was deleted by the censors, leaving large sections of A General History of Tibet: Contemporary Volume after 1959 blank.

The Rights Defense Network Information Center reported that Li Yuxiang, a 76-year-old Falun Gong practitioner from Wuqing District, Tianjin, was sentenced to four years and six months. Arrested in 2024 for mailing a letter, she was released on bail for health reasons, tried on April 23 and May 12, 2026, and detained on May 13. She is serving her sentence at Tianjin Women’s Prison, scheduled to end November 12, 2030.

Henan Province’s Xixian Rights Defender Xing Wangli Blindfolded and Secretly Transferred to Sanmenxia Prison for Forced Labor
Xing Wangli was secretly transferred blindfolded from Zhumadian Prison to Sanmenxia Prison on August 20, 2026, without his family being notified. During a September 15 visit, his wife, Xu Jincui, found him physically and mentally exhausted. She said Xing has a disabled right hand and serious head injuries requiring a titanium-alloy skull implant, but prison staff stated that all inmates must perform labor. His sentence ends February 17, 2028.

Real-Name Complaint: Officials Seized Farmland from Residents of Zhejiang’s Anji County, the Birthplace of Wang Junqiang’s Two Mountains Theory, for Rent-Seeking
In February 2025, 25.87 mu of farmland in Houcun Group, Kangshan Village, Anji County, was allegedly cleared, excavated for yellow sand, covered with concrete and converted into a night market. On May 26, 2025, Village Party Secretary Chen Lei and Houcun Group head Yang Micheng, his father, signed a land-transfer agreement that residents opposed. Complaints to discipline inspection bodies and local officials allegedly produced no resolution.

Over-70 Falun Gong Practitioner Sun Shuyun from Harbin, Heilongjiang, Sentenced to Six Years, Tortured and Abused in Heilongjiang Women’s Prison
Sun Shuyun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin, Heilongjiang, born in 1953, was arrested in May 2023 and sentenced to six years in September 2023 for preaching Falun Gong. Transferred to Heilongjiang Women’s Prison in February 2024, she was reportedly punished for refusing to renounce her faith, including 28 days sitting on a small stool in a washroom without washing facilities. She was also reportedly beaten for practicing exercises and writing appeals.
