At 14:04 on March 25, relevant departments in Zhongshan, Guangdong, told a reporter that a preliminary investigation found that the case involving a 17-year-old girl giving birth as a surrogate was true. Earlier, anti-trafficking volunteer Shangguan Zhengyi said that a 17-year-old girl from Sichuan had acted as a surrogate for a 50-year-old man from Jiangxi and given birth to twins. That claim could not be independently verified.

After learning of the matter, the Zhongshan health authorities went to the hospitals involved to investigate and said they would inform the public as soon as possible after completing their checks.

On March 23, a section of road at the entrance to Xinhua Du in Guangze, Nanping, Fujian, suddenly collapsed, leaving a hole. Emergency repairs have been completed, and the cause is under investigation.

On the 25th, a netizen in Mianyang, Sichuan, posted a video saying the incident occurred after 1 a.m., without specifying what happened. Another netizen later posted an image of a group-chat record, but the claim has not been verified.

According to the post, a woman identified by the pseudonym Liu Yun was killed by her former boyfriend, identified by the pseudonym Wang Fu, in Guan County, Shandong, in 2020. After Wang was executed in January 2024, Liu’s mother, identified by the pseudonym Li Xiu’e, was told at the funeral home that a death certificate issued by the police was required to collect the remains. Police reportedly said the court’s final judgment was sufficient and therefore did not issue one. The family has reportedly been unable to bury Liu because of mortuary fees of about 380,000 yuan and incomplete paperwork. The information could not be independently verified.

On April 2, a police officer from the petition office of the Lixia branch of the Jinan Public Security Bureau told a Dahe Daily reporter that police had provided humanitarian assistance to the family and applied to civil affairs authorities for a reduction in the mortuary fees. The event was alleged to have involved the use of a live dog and its killing in rituals described as “praying for blessings” and “warding off evil.” The post said the incident had caused an adverse social impact. According to the post, a man identified as “Xu Zewei” and described as a suspected Chinese spy was previously arrested in Italy. His wife began posting on Weibo and Xiaohongshu in August seeking help from the authorities; the relevant Xiaohongshu posts have since been deleted and the account cleared, while the Weibo account remains. In an announcement issued in 2024, the Chengwu County government said that in 2023, pension spending for 8,778 people within the public system was close to 800 million yuan.
