On August 21, 2026, this outlet learned that the International Campaign for Tibet recently reported: “The Tibet Autonomous Region Prison has seriously violated the law, using absurd reasons to prevent the appeals lawyer from meeting with Dorje Tashi, and has deprived his family of the right to visit Dorje Tashi for as long as six years.”

Gongbo Ji, the sister of Tibetan entrepreneur Dorje Tashi, who was framed by the Chinese Communist authorities and sentenced to life imprisonment, continues to appeal his grievances outside the Tibet High People’s Court. The Tibet Autonomous Region Prison has prevented lawyer Wang Fei from meeting with Dorje Tashi on absurd grounds. The authorities, citing the negative impact caused by speaking out online, have deprived Dorje Cidan and his two sisters of the right to meet with Dorje Tashi.

Tibetan entrepreneur Dorje Tashi, who was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2008 by the Chinese Communist authorities on fabricated charges, has been imprisoned for 18 years. His family has appealed his grievances outside the Tibet Autonomous Region High People’s Court for many years. The regional prison deprived Dorje Tashi’s family of the right to visit him for six years, and now even his appeals lawyer has been deprived of the right to meet with him.

Biography of Dorje Tashi: Male, born on October 25, 1973; Tibetan; a native of Xiahe County, Gannan Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Gansu Province; formerly a deputy to the 11th People’s Congress of Shigatse City, Tibet Autonomous Region; president of Tibet Shambhala Group; chairman of the board of directors of Tibet Shambhala Industrial Development Co., Ltd.; and executive director of Tibet Shigatse Oasis Real Estate Development Co., Ltd. On June 3, 2009, the Lhasa Municipal Procuratorate filed a public prosecution against him for loan fraud. On May 17, 2010, the Lhasa Intermediate People’s Court sentenced him to life imprisonment at first instance for loan fraud. The appellant disagreed and filed an appeal seeking acquittal. On July 26, 2010, the Tibet Autonomous Region High People’s Court issued a second-instance ruling rejecting the appeal and upholding the original judgment. He is currently detained at the Lhasa Qushui County Prison.
