It Has Been Two Years Since Liu Deyu, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Jingmen, Hubei, Who Was Sentenced to Four Years, Was Persecuted to Death by Fanjiatai Prison

(Report by the Information Center of Rights Defense Network) On July 19, 2026, this website learned that it has been two years since Liu Deyu, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jingmen, Hubei, who was sentenced to four years, was persecuted to death by Fanjiatai Prison.

Liu Deyu was arrested, detained, and framed in July 2022. He was tried by the Dongbao District Court of Jingmen City on October 28 of the same year and was subsequently sentenced to four years in prison. On May 10, 2023, he was sent to Fanjiatai Prison in Shayang, Hubei. After being sent to Fanjiatai Prison, he refused to give up practicing Falun Gong and was soon sent to the prison hospital. Less than a year after entering prison, he was persecuted to death around the 2024 Chinese New Year. He was 68 years old.

Liu Deyu, male, was a junior college graduate and formerly served as a staff member of the Jingmen Health and Epidemic Prevention Station. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1996. Amid the Chinese Communist Party’s ongoing persecution of Falun Gong, Liu Deyu was arrested and detained many times, subjected to re-education through labor, and sentenced to prison several times. He was cumulatively detained and persecuted for 16 years and was forced into homelessness many times, sleeping under bridges, in culverts, and by the roadside.
