Zhang Xiaodong was arrested on November 15, 2022。The indictment accused him of allegedly committing the crime of picking quarrels and provoking trouble,while all the evidence consisted of his so-called statements in WeChat groups、Moments、and QQ groups,making this a typical case of being convicted for his speech。At 10:00 a.m. on March 19, 2024, Zhang Xiaodong’s case of picking quarrels and provoking trouble was heard at the Qingshanhu District Court of Nanchang City,and Zhang Xiaodong firmly believed that he was innocent。On May 10, 2024,Zhang Xiaodong’s case was tried and the verdict was delivered,and Zhang Xiaodong was sentenced to 4 years in prison,dissatisfied with the verdict,he appealed in court,and the second instance upheld the original judgment。
Profile of Zhang Xiaodong:A native of Nanchang, Jiangxi,born on September 5, 1960。He took leave without pay from the railway department,went into business for many years,and has now retired。He is warm-hearted and generous,and enjoys making friends。Whenever a friend encountered difficulties,including local citizen friends and lawyers in trouble,he would run around to help them。
Zhang Xiaodong was arrested by local police on November 15, 2022,and was subsequently placed under criminal detention。He was later approved for arrest on December 23, 2022。Zhang Xiaodong and the people arrested in the ‘Jiangxi Jiujiang Four Citizens’ case were all friends。He was transferred to the procuratorate for prosecution on February 20, 2023。The case was heard on March 19, 2024。
On May 10, 2024, he was sentenced to 4 years in prison,with his sentence ending on:November 14, 2026。Dissatisfied with the verdict,he appealed in court,and the second instance upheld the original judgment。Zhang Xiaodong has now been transferred from the Nanchang No. 1 Detention Center to Jiangxi Ganjiang Prison。

Chen Mingyan, a human rights defender from Ya’an, Sichuan, was arrested in 2022 and sentenced to four and a half years in prison for “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.” She was released on August 10, 2026. On September 6, she filed complaints against Chengdu Women’s Prison, alleging forced labor, assaults by inmates and poor-quality, overpriced supermarket goods.

Nantong Entrepreneur Zhang Weiguo Detained for 10 Days by the Chaoyang Branch of the Beijing Municipal Public Security Bureau
The Rights Defense Network Information Center reported that Nantong entrepreneur Zhang Weiguo was taken from the Jiangsu High People’s Court’s Beijing reception point on September 4, 2026, and received a 10-day administrative detention penalty from Beijing’s Chaoyang Branch on September 5 for obstructing official duties. Zhang, legal representative of Nantong Yuanjing Construction Engineering Co., Ltd., had petitioned the Supreme People’s Court for three years. The report also said Huang Juan was forced into a private car and remained unreachable.

Case Details and Biography of Ms. Hao Sanbao, a Falun Gong Practitioner from Harbin’s Xiangfang District, Sentenced to 3 Years
The Rights Defense Network Information Center reported on September 7, 2026, that Hao Sanbao, a Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin’s Xiangfang District born in 1949, was sentenced to three years in 2022. Due to her physical condition, she was placed under residential surveillance. On December 23, 2025, railway police took her from home in a wheelchair, and she was transferred to Harbin Women’s Prison on December 30. Her sentence ends December 22, 2028.
