Fucha, Taiwan-based Baji Culture Publishing House editor-in-chief, sentenced to 3 years, was released from prison in May 2026

（Rights Defense Network Information Center report）On June 8, 2026，this outlet learned：According to a report by the Liberty Times，Fucha, editor-in-chief of Baji Publishing, was released from prison in May，but because of an additional one-year sentence，he has been barred by the Chinese Communist Party from leaving the country and is unable to return to Taiwan。

Previously, in March 2025，Fucha（real name: Li Yanhe）, editor-in-chief of Baji Culture, was sentenced to three years in prison for the 「crime of inciting secession of the state」，deprived of political rights for one year，and had RMB 50,000 in personal property confiscated。 Fucha was arrested in March 2023 when he went to China to visit relatives and handle matters related to his household registration，and was publicly sentenced at first instance by the Shanghai First Intermediate People’s Court on February 17, 2025。

Fucha’s biography：Real name Li Yanhe，born in 1971，from Xiuyan County, Liaoning Province，Manchu，Taiwan resident，former deputy president of Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House，publisher and editor-in-chief of Taiwan’s Baji Culture Publishing House，a well-known figure in Taiwan’s cultural circles，political prisoner。

In his early years，he studied for a doctorate at East China Normal University and obtained a doctoral degree，then served as deputy president of Shanghai Literature and Art Publishing House；later，after marrying a Taiwanese woman and having a child，he moved to Taiwan to settle there；

In 2009–2010，he established Baji Culture Publishing House in Taiwan and appointed himself editor-in-chief；because he has consistently supported conservatism and advocated separating the histories of Xinjiang、Tibet、Mongolia、Manchuria and other regions of mainland China from 「Chinese history」and classifying them as 「Inner Asian history」（that is, the history of inland Asia），some of the books published and distributed by Baji Culture under his direction belonged to the right-wing political camp，demonstrating the diversity of his editorial philosophy；

On February 3, 2020，because of Baji Culture’s prominence and distinctive character in Taiwan，the Central News Agency launched a cultural column for him——a program hosted under the title 《Looking at China This Way—Fucha Time》which continued until it went off the air on December 31, 2023；

In March 2023，because he had already obtained a Republic of China residence permit in 2013，he specifically went to mainland China to visit relatives in order to cancel his mainland household registration，but unexpectedly and unfortunately lost contact from then on，until April of the same year，when the Taiwan Affairs Office confirmed that he had been arrested in Shanghai by Shanghai police on suspicion of the 「crime of inciting secession of the state」；

In response，in order to help him secure an early release and return to Taiwan，hundreds of cultural figures from Taiwan、Japan and the United States launched a campaign of support，calling on the mainland Chinese authorities to release him immediately；

According to a statement by China’s Taiwan Affairs Office on March 26, 2025，Fucha（real name: Li Yanhe）, editor-in-chief of Baji Culture, was sentenced to three years in prison for the 「crime of inciting secession of the state」，deprived of political rights for one year，and had RMB 50,000 in personal property confiscated。 Fucha was arrested in March 2023 when he went to China to visit relatives and handle matters related to his household registration，and was publicly sentenced at first instance by the Shanghai First Intermediate People’s Court on February 17, 2025。He was released in May 2026。Fucha had previously been detained at an unspecified detention center in Shanghai。
