Jilin Province, Jiaohe City Falun Gong practitioner Wang Xiulian, sentenced to 3 years and 6 months, dies as a result of persecution in Jilin Women’s Prison
(Rights Defense Network Information Center report) On June 2, 2026, this website learned that Wang Xiulian, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jiaohe City, Jilin Province, who had been sentenced to 3 years and 6 months, died as a result of persecution in Jilin Women’s Prison on May 10, 2026.
Wang Xiulian: A female Falun Gong practitioner from Jiaohe City, Jilin Province, born in September 1959. She began practicing Falun Gong in her early years. Amid the Chinese Communist Party’s brutal persecution of Falun Gong, Wang Xiulian was sentenced to three and a half years in 2012 and persecuted in Jilin Women’s Prison.
On October 27, 2023, Wang Xiulian was arrested by police from the Hebei Street Police Station of the Jiaohe City Public Security Bureau. She was later released on bail pending trial. Wang Xiulian was forced to leave Jiaohe City. On July 10, 2025, Wang Xiulian, who had been displaced for more than six months, was arrested by local police in Guangxi. She was later escorted back by Jiaohe police and detained in the Jilin City Detention Center. It was learned in late November 2025 that Wang Xiulian had been sentenced to 3 years and 6 months by a local court. Her sentence runs until January 9, 2029. She was taken to the Eighth Ward of Jilin Women’s Prison on February 13, 2026, and died as a result of persecution less than three months later, at the age of 67.
It is reported that the prison once played a video allegedly showing her being “resuscitated in a hospital” for her daughter. However, during a visit in April, Wang Xiulian’s physical condition was still good and she was mentally lucid, completely inconsistent with her “critical condition” before her death. It is reported that prison guards directed Li Mingzhu, the cell leader (a criminal inmate), to berate her almost every day on the grounds that her “denunciation and criticism was not up to standard,” causing Wang Xiulian’s heart rate to remain between 110 and 120 for a prolonged period and her whole body to tremble. It was not until May 10, 2026, that Wang Xiulian was taken to a hospital, where she died that day. Fearing liability, the prison hurriedly processed so-called “medical parole” procedures for her. Whether she died inside the prison, while being transported to the hospital, or in the hospital remains unknown to the outside world. Prison authorities claimed that “resuscitation efforts for heart disease were unsuccessful” and showed her daughter a “resuscitation video.”
