Case overview: Starting in 2015, Ju Dianhong, Liang Qin, and others engaged in missionary activities in Yunnan. On October 21, 2016, Yunnan police arrested dozens of believers. On December 28, 2017, six of them were sentenced. Ju Dianhong and Liang Qin were identified as principal offenders and sentenced to 13 years and 10 years, respectively. Liang Qin completed her sentence on October 20, 2026; Ju Dianhong’s sentence runs until October 20, 2029.
Liang Qin’s profile: Female, born July 24, 1987, from Peng’an County, Sichuan Province; Christian; a key member of a Christian house church in Yun County, Lincang City, Yunnan Province; a victim of the Yun County Case; a Chinese prisoner of conscience who was previously detained.
Since 2015, as an assistant to Ju Dianhong, a preacher at a house church, she has engaged in Christian preaching and recruited believers in many parts of Yunnan Province with Ju Dianhong and others. Their influence gradually grew, prompting the Chinese Communist Party authorities in Yunnan to become alarmed and fearful. They soon formed the “2016 ‘YN3[unrecognized character]15 Three Classes of Servants’ heretical organization project” to crack down harshly on its principal members and persecute them; on October 21, 2016, she and dozens of others were arrested and detained by Yun County police in Lincang City in the “Yun County Case mass arrests.” Their residences were all searched, and large quantities of preaching materials, leaflets, and personal items including mobile phones and computers were seized. A large amount of electronic file information was also extracted from electronic devices as evidence of crimes; on November 25 of the same year, she, Ju Dianhong, and four others were formally arrested on suspicion of “using a heretical organization to undermine the implementation of the law” and held at the Linxiang District Detention Center in Yun County, Lincang City. They were accused of “holding secret gatherings in many prefectures and cities in Yunnan Province, preaching scripture and developing believers, continuing to promote and proclaim the doomsday theory, training organizational leaders, creating conditions and providing convenience for secret preaching and gatherings, and rebuilding the organizational system of the ‘Three Classes of Servants’ group,” which were deemed illegal acts, and she was treated as a major offender in the Yun County Case; on December 28, 2017, the Yun County Court in Yunnan Province sentenced her at first instance to 10 years in prison for “organizing and using a heretical organization to undermine the implementation of the law,” and fined her RMB 100,000; she was dissatisfied and appealed; the second-instance ruling later upheld the original judgment; throughout her detention and trial, she consistently maintained that her faith was not a crime and stated that her faith was absolutely not a heretical religion; she was released upon completing her sentence on October 20, 2026. She had previously served her sentence at Yunnan Province First Women’s Prison.

On October 22, 2026, this outlet learned that Mr. Zhou Yuanzhi, a well-known independent writer and human rights defender from Zhongxiang, Hubei Province, who was sentenced to four years and six months in prison for his writing, died suddenly of a heart attack on October 14, 2026, at the age of 65. His pen names were Chu Yichu, Hua Liangxing and Zeng Renquan. Yet not long after his death, shocking reports quickly emerged that overseas digital publishing and sales platforms had imposed a sweeping ban. On October 20, readers and rights advocates in China and abroad found, while searching Amazon, that the sales and information pages for Mr. Zhou’s landmark novel, "The Murky Wan’er River: Diary of a Hostess," whose incisive portrayal of ordinary people sought to pierce the “mask of prosperity,” had been technically erased without warning and had become completely inaccessible. On October 21, 2026, this outlet learned that Sanmenxia Prison had cut inmates’ food rations, forcing thousands of inmates to work 15 hours a day, every day of the year. The inmates are surviving on nothing but “fat.” Imprisoned rights advocate Xing Wangli told his wife, “I can’t go on living.” On October 20, 2026, Xing Wangli’s wife, Xu Jincui, again went to Sanmenxia Prison to visit him. According to reports, Xing Wangli had just been transferred from Zhumadian Prison to Sanmenxia Prison. At Sanmenxia Prison, after Xing scratched himself a few times because his skin was itchy, the prison administration section said he had failed to follow the “rules” and forced him to hold his hands above his head, in a posture resembling surrender, for more than 10 hours a day for five consecutive days. The prison food is extremely poor: thin porridge and steamed buns for breakfast, boiled noodles for lunch, and occasionally stir-fried bean sprouts or tofu boiled in plain water for dinner. There is no meat at all in the prison. Even though Xing Wangli’s right hand is disabled, after he was beaten and suffered a severe head injury with a comminuted skull fracture

Shanghai Human Rights Defender Chen Jianfang Still Under House Arrest Three Years After Her Release from Prison
On October 21, 2026, this website learned that Shanghai human rights defender Chen Jianfang was still under house arrest by the authorities three years after her release from prison. Ms. Chen Jianfang is a landless farmer who fought for land rights. She has long been active in rights defense and gradually became a representative for local victims of land expropriation and house demolition. She was arrested in 2019 and tortured while under residential surveillance at a designated location. During those two months under residential surveillance at a designated location, Chen Jianfang “barely slept.” In 2021, Ms. Chen Jianfang was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for subversion. She was tortured and abused in prison and lost 14 teeth. Photos of Chen Jianfang from before her most recent imprisonment show that her teeth were straight and intact. On October 21, 2023, she was released after completing her sentence. More than four years in hell left Chen Jianfang, then in the prime of life at nearly 50, with almost half her teeth missing. This is truly shocking. What brutal torture and persecution did Chen Jianfang endure?
