Niu Tengyu’s Mother: After the May Day holiday ends, I will once again go to Guangdong to continue seeking justice for my wrongfully imprisoned son, Niu Tengyu

The 16th lawyer I hired for my son has represented him for more than a year， but the Guangdong authorities have still refused to arrange for the case files to be reviewed。 Previously, they brushed us off on the grounds that “a petition for prosecutorial protest must first be submitted before the case files can be reviewed”， even though reviewing the case files has absolutely nothing to do with submitting a petition for prosecutorial protest， and this delay is clearly nothing more than shameless obstruction。

Before the first-instance trial began， the lawyers for the 24 young people were only allowed to see portions of the case files selected by the authorities， while all other materials were refused on the grounds that they involved “state secrets”。 Numerous flaws in the case、 erroneous facts and fabricated evidence were deliberately concealed。 Because our lawyers were unable to obtain the complete case files， they had no way of knowing how many illegal means the Guangdong authorities had used to fabricate this wrongful case、 or how incomplete the basis for the judgment was。 It was like not giving examinees the complete test paper， and faced with a severe information asymmetry， the lawyers were simply unable to identify the correct direction for the defense， let alone mount an effective defense。

Therefore， I must go to Guangdong once again and， in accordance with the law， demand that the authorities provide our lawyers with the complete case files。

In 2019， the Guangdong authorities illegally arrested a group of innocent young people in order to claim credit and seek rewards， and subjected them to inhumane torture。 Subsequently， under the direct intervention of Yang Ye——the servant of a high-ranking powerful figure， the Guangdong Provincial Political and Legal Affairs Commission ordered the public security bureaus， procuratorates and courts in Maoming to coordinate their handling of the case and illegally impose heavy sentences on 24 young people， including several minors。 This was the “Ministry-supervised Special Case 1902136” that shocked China and the world。

My son Niu Tengyu was one of these 24 people。 Yang Ye first ordered the public security authorities in Maoming and Foshan to intensify the torture of my son， and even attempted to kill him to silence him。 The brutal abuse left no part of his skin uninjured。 After the torture， Yang Ye instructed the Guangdong Provincial Political and Legal Affairs Commission to have my son take the blame as the “principal offender” for her son Gu Yangyang， and demanded that the Maoming authorities impose a heavy sentence。 To complete the “political task”， the Maoming Procuratorate fabricated evidence， concocted confessions and induced and deceived people into giving statements； the Maoming Court threatened our lawyers， demanding that they remain silent or withdraw from the representation。

In this way， my son was illegally sentenced to 14 years in prison。

In order to turn this wrongful case into an “鉄案”， Yang Ye and the Guangdong Provincial Political and Legal Affairs Commission immediately began a campaign of ongoing persecution against me。 This persecution came from the public security and state security systems， using their official authority and technological means to repeatedly threaten my life， and it has never truly stopped。

When my son had just been transferred to Sihui Prison， the Guangdong Provincial Political and Legal Affairs Commission once ordered the prison to illegally deprive me of my visitation rights in order to assist Yang Ye。 I went to Guangdong many times to seek redress， only to be repeatedly threatened and harassed： once， when I went to Sihui Prison to request a visit with my son， what greeted me was a line of special police officers carrying live firearms； on another occasion， when I was seeking redress in Guangzhou， Political and Legal Affairs Commission personnel took the room next to mine at my hotel and spent the entire night playing cards and chatting noisily， leaving me unable to sleep all night and without the energy to seek redress during the day。

I know very clearly that the ultimate purpose of the brutal persecution jointly carried out by Yang Ye and the Guangdong Provincial Political and Legal Affairs Commission is to make both me and my son Niu Tengyu “disappear”。 Even if I collapse on the road to seeking redress， that would still be better than waiting helplessly to die at home in frustration， as long as my son remains in Guangdong， I will continue going to Guangdong to seek redress and will never give up！
