Zhenjiang rights advocate Wu Cunming detained for five days for petitioning on grounds of “disrupting public order”

（Rights Defense Network Information Center report）On May 14, 2026， this outlet learned： On May 13, 2026， Wu Cunming, a rights petitioner from Zhenjiang, Jiangsu, was detained for five days by police in Runzhou District, Zhenjiang, on the grounds of “disrupting public order”。 The reason was that on May 12, Wu Cunming went to Beijing’s National Public Complaints and Proposals Administration to present his demands through the normal petitioning channel， after which police from Runzhou District, Zhenjiang, intercepted him in Beijing, brought him back to Zhenjiang and detained him。

Although the National Public Complaints and Proposals Administration is a lawful channel officially established to receive people’s petitions and demands， the interception of petitioners by local authorities（intercepting petitioners） has nevertheless become routine， especially during major events in Beijing。 On the surface, it appears that the authorities have established channels for rights remedies， but in reality, once people seek remedies through these lawful channels， they are often intercepted and obstructed through various behind-the-scenes operations， turning these rights-remedy channels into mere window dressing。
