On July 12, 2026, this outlet learned that the case of Gansu public welfare activist Jing Shuren, who was arrested for reposting on Weibo content related to migrant workers seeking wage arrears, will be heard on July 20, 2026, in the First Trial Courtroom of the Chengguan District Court in Lanzhou. On March 16, 2024, he was criminally detained on suspicion of picking quarrels and provoking trouble for reposting on Weibo content related to migrant workers seeking wage arrears. He is currently being held at the Lanzhou No. 1 Detention Center.

Biography of Jing Shuren: Male, Han Chinese, from Yuntian Town, Longxi County, Dingxi City, Gansu Province; public welfare activist and self-media operator. In 2018, he organized the “New Year, New Clothes · Enlightenment Book House” charitable donation campaign in Shangdadao Village, Yuntian Town, Longxi County, his hometown, donating winter cotton-padded clothes to more than 200 elderly residents of the village and more than 400 books to the village women’s federation. At the end of 2019, he went alone to rescue people from his hometown who had been deceived into joining a pyramid scheme, and ultimately succeeded in freeing them. In 2020, Jing Shuren repeatedly reported issues related to the Lianyungang–Khorgas Expressway to the Provincial Department of Transport, and they were ultimately properly resolved. At the same time, his busy figure could often be seen at scenes involving helping migrant workers recover wage arrears, promoting agricultural products, accident compensation, charitable donations, and other activities.

On March 16, 2024, Jing Shuren was criminally detained by Lanzhou police on suspicion of picking quarrels and provoking trouble for reposting on Weibo content related to migrant workers seeking wage arrears. He has been held ever since, for more than two years, at one point generating widespread concern throughout society. Simply for reposting on Weibo content related to migrant workers seeking wage arrears, this migrant worker, who had never sought even half a cent in profit, has been detained for more than two years. The charge remains the same: picking quarrels and provoking trouble.

One year after the case was prosecuted before the court, his defense lawyer, Zhu Xiaoding, finally received notice from the court at the end of March 2026 that a pretrial conference in Jing Shuren’s case would be held from April 8 to 10, 2026. His defense lawyer, Zhu Xiaoding, wrote, “As a lawyer, as an online user, and as his friend, I am extremely grieved: such a good person, who throughout his entire life among humanity had never received a single negative review from anyone, has actually suffered this calamity.” Jing Shuren is currently being held at the Lanzhou No. 1 Detention Center.
