Li Daoguo, Editor-in-Chief of the Utopia Website, Arrested in Beijing by Police from Huixian, Xinxiang, Henan, for Defending His Rights; Criminally Detained

On March 28, 2026, this outlet learned that Li Daoguo, editor-in-chief of the Utopia website, was arrested in Beijing by police from Huixian, Xinxiang, Henan, in connection with his rights-defense activities, and has been criminally detained.

It is reported that Li Daoguo was taken from his home in Beijing’s Haidian District to Taipingzhuang Police Station at around 8 p.m. on March 25, 2026, and was subsequently taken away by police officers from Huixian, Xinxiang, Henan. After he remained unaccounted for 24 hours, his family contacted Beitaipingzhuang Police Station, the Huixian Public Security Bureau and several other parties, and only then confirmed that Li Daoguo had been criminally detained on suspicion of “extortion.” The investigating unit is the Criminal Investigation Brigade of the Huixian Public Security Bureau, and he is currently being held at the Xinxiang City Detention Center.

Li Daoguo is the editor-in-chief of the well-known non-governmental left-wing website “Utopia.” In recent years, Li Daoguo has participated in rights-defense activities with people in his hometown because the environment in his ancestral home in Huixian has been destroyed, farmland has been damaged and mines have been illegally exploited, and has persisted in reporting illegal enterprises and relevant departments of the local government for violating the law in their enforcement.
