((Rights Defense Network Information Center report))On May 11, 2026, this outlet learned that mainland Chinese human rights defenders issued a statement in support of Huang Qi, demanding that the Chinese government allow Huang Qi’s mother to visit him as soon as possible.

The statement follows:

Huang Qi has been imprisoned three times for a total of 20 years, and his third sentence was as long as 12 years. He is currently serving his sentence at Bazhong Prison in Sichuan Province. During his imprisonment, however, his mother, Pu Wenqing, has repeatedly tried to visit Huang Qi at the prison where he is serving his sentence, but has never been able to see Huang Qi. Given Huang Qi’s character, he must have offended the prison authorities by refusing to accept their abuse, and they are punishing him by preventing family visits.

Huang Qi already suffers from kidney disease, high blood pressure, brain atrophy, hydrocephalus and other illnesses. In addition to the abuse he has suffered in prison, we are very concerned about his health and suspect that Huang Qi is now seriously ill. The prison authorities are preventing his nearly 100-year-old mother from visiting him precisely because they fear that she will inform the outside world of his physical condition.

The Chinese Communist Party’s behavior, which so flagrantly violates human nature, is no longer that of a normal ruling party, but that of thugs and bandits. Therefore, we call on the international community to intervene as soon as possible and demand that the Chinese government allow Huang Qi’s mother to visit him as soon as possible, so as not to allow tragedies like those of Liu Xiaobo and Yang Tianshui in 2017 to happen again.
