CCP Official Research Report Acknowledges That the Use of Tibetan Has Become a Mere Formality in Milin County, Tibet

By Weiquan Information CenterPublished Apr 3, 2026

On April 3, 2026, this outlet learned that a report on the social use of Tibetan in border areas of Tibet, conducted by the Office of the Tibetan Language and Script Working Committee of the Tibet Autonomous Region, shows that the use of Tibetan has become a mere formality in Milin County, Tibet.

The report states: “In projects supporting Tibet, some notices and documents have not been translated into Tibetan. Although the Nyingchi Prefecture authorities issued a notice in 2013 on the requirement to use both Tibetan and Chinese in the engineering sector, demanding rectification and standardizing the use of Tibetan, implementation has been inadequate in recent years. The reason is that construction workers and personnel supporting Tibet have come from mainland China, while there are relatively few local Tibetans, and they do not know how to translate Chinese into Tibetan. Only a small number of notices symbolically use both Tibetan and Chinese. Moreover, the use of Tibetan is not taken seriously. Personnel involved in projects supporting Tibet believe that temporary notices do not need to be translated into Tibetan.”
