(Rights Defense Network Information Center report) On September 15, 2026, this website learned that a Falun Gong practitioner from Harbin, Heilongjiang, who is over 70 years old and was sentenced to six years, has suffered torture and abuse in Heilongjiang Women’s Prison.
Sun Shuyun: A female Falun Gong practitioner in her seventies from Harbin, Heilongjiang, born in 1953, she began practicing Falun Gong in her early years. Since the Chinese Communist Party began its frenzied persecution of Falun Gong in July 1999, Sun Shuyun has been illegally detained more than ten times.
In July 2022, she was arrested and her home was ransacked by police for preaching Falun Gong. In October 2022, she was placed under residential surveillance by the Guangming Police Station in Hulan District, Harbin. On May 20, 2023, Sun Shuyun was arrested by officers from the Domestic Security Brigade of the Hulan District Public Security Bureau. She was subsequently formally arrested by the Daowai District Procuratorate of Harbin. Sun Shuyun was illegally detained at Harbin No. 2 Detention Center (Yaziquan Detention Center). At the No. 2 Detention Center, she refused to sit on the board, refused to wear prison clothes, insisted on meditating and practicing the exercises, and went on a hunger strike in protest despite being over 70 years old. On September 4, 2023, a trial was held against her at the Daowai District Court in Harbin, and she was sentenced to six years in prison. In February 2024, she was transferred to Heilongjiang Women’s Prison to serve her sentence. Her sentence runs until: May 19, 2029.
Sun Shuyun has continued to suffer torture and abuse in Heilongjiang Women’s Prison: On February 2, 2024, Sun Shuyun was transferred from the training squad to Group 606 in Ward 8. Because Sun Shuyun refused to be “transformed” and give up her faith, the ward did not allow her to enter a cell and instead placed her directly in the washroom (shower room), where she was punished by being made to sit on a small stool for 28 days. During that period, she was not allowed to wash her face, brush her teeth, wash her feet, wash her clothes, wash her hair, or bathe. Sun Shuyun was also beaten for practicing the exercises and writing appeal materials. Sun Shuyun has been confined to her cell for more than three years.
This website will continue to follow Sun Shuyun’s situation in prison.
