Mainland Chinese Tourists Deliberately Knock Over Mani Stone Mound at Tibet’s Lake Manasarovar, Angering Local Tibetans
On September 15, 2026, this outlet learned that recently, tourists from mainland China visiting Tibet deliberately knocked over a mani stone mound located beside the sacred Lake Manasarovar, scattering the stones along the lakeshore.
In the images, local Tibetans rushed to Lake Manasarovar after hearing of the incident and expressed great anger and dissatisfaction at the uncivilized behavior of the Chinese tourists, who deliberately desecrated Tibetan religious beliefs. Some Tibetans angrily pointed at the area around them, shouting to express their dissatisfaction and anguish.
Once again, we call on all tourists visiting Tibet to respect Tibetan religious and cultural customs and refrain from doing anything that damages relations between ethnic groups.
