(Rights Defense Network Information Center report)On April 4, 2026,this website learned the case details and biography of Qu Hongbo(Mingdao),a victim of Shenyang“Saitel Fellowship case” who was arrested. They are now reported as follows:
Qu Hongbo:also known as Mingdao,a native of Liaoning Province,a Christian,pastor of the“Saitel Youth Fellowship” in Kangping County, Shenyang(affiliated with Shenyang’s house church“Way of Life Church”,also known as“All-Ranges Church”),a victim of the“Saitel Fellowship case”,and a detained prisoner of conscience in China。
In his early years, he was a businessman with a substantial income,but after being baptized and converting to faith in Jesus Christ,as his understanding of the Christian faith deepened,in the 2010s,he felt deeply called and resolutely gave up his comfortable life,equipped himself with theological training,and devoted himself full-time to pastoral work at the church,continuing for more than a decade; the church described him as a good pastor who was“both virtuous and talented,pure in hands and heart,and full of loving-kindness”;
However,as the Chinese Communist regime intensified its suppression of Christian house churches,his church also continually faced persecution and threats from the authorities against its pastors,co-workers and key believers; on June 28, 2025,police from the Shengli Police Station in Kangping County, Shenyang, suddenly forced their way into his home and took him away,and his home was searched; from the following day through July 2,several other church co-workers and key believers were also taken by police from their respective homes,and each of their homes was searched; on June 29,he and five other church co-workers(Wang Xiangchao、Shao Huaxuan、Chen Jian、Liu Xueyun、and Gu Hui)were criminally detained by Kangping County police on suspicion of the crime of“using a cult organization to undermine implementation of the law”;during their detention and interrogation,several of them were subjected to torture to extract confessions; among other things,in order to make him admit to fabricated facts during the torture,whenever he refused,police forced him to squat on his toes,and kicked him in the feet whenever he moved even slightly; he was also hooded several times and beaten by a group of seven or eight people,causing serious injuries to multiple parts of his body,his lips to turn outward,and his mouth to fill with blood clots; moreover,in order to achieve their interrogation objective,police deprived him of food and water for more than 10 hours,to force him to write false confessions and letters of remorse; the two other church sisters arrested at the same time as him were also separately subjected to torture including being slapped in the face,having their arms twisted,being pulled by the hair,being kicked in the legs,and being struck in the ribs with elbows,and were even threatened and intimidated with their own children and elderly family members,in order to force them to write false confessions and letters of remorse; from July 29 to July 31 of the same year,all five other people, including Wang Xiangchao, were successively released on bail pending trial, with the exception of him; however, from September 26 to 29,four of them(Wang Xiangchao、Shao Huaxuan、Liu Xueyun and Gu Hui)were again remanded in custody and rearrested, and the next day his wife Hua Zhao was also taken away by police; as of now,all six of them have been formally arrested for the same offense; it is learned that although a team of lawyers has formally intervened in his case, and the legal team has communicated with the authorities handling the case, hoping that the authorities would strictly distinguish between lawful religious activities and cult behavior when handling such cases and avoid“expanding the crackdown”,there has been no detailed information on the subsequent progress of the case or their physical health conditions。
He is currently detained at the Kangping County Detention Center in Shenyang(Beisanjiazi Subdistrict, Kangping County, Shenyang, Liaoning Province; postal code:110500)。

The author rejects a 206-page judgment that, they argue, treats belief in ending one-party dictatorship as unconstitutional and criminal. They say law cannot control thoughts, condemn obedience to authoritarian power, and describe ending one-party dictatorship as a responsibility of Hong Kong and Chinese people. The author refuses to apologize for these beliefs, accepts possible imprisonment, and vows to continue pursuing democracy, accountability for the 1989 massacre and a democratic Hong Kong and China.
