Xing Jiaqiu and Zhang Xiuying are Falun Gong practitioners from Huludao, Liaoning, and farmers from Gangtun Town, Lianshan District. In 2026, both were nearly 50 years old. Xing Jiaqiu and Zhang Xiuying began practicing Falun Gong in 1996. After the Chinese Communist Party began persecuting Falun Gong, the couple endured long-term suppression for maintaining their faith. Xing Jiaqiu was sentenced twice, serving a total of 9 and a half years; Zhang Xiuying was also previously sentenced to three years. Since then, the two have been under long-term surveillance and suppression by the authorities.
Xing Jiaqiu and Zhang Xiuying were arrested at home and unlawfully detained by police from the Lianshan Street Police Station on June 9, 2025. The two stood trial on April 15, 2026; on August 3, the Lianshan District Court each sentenced them to three years in prison and fined each 10,000 yuan. Sentence ends: June 8, 2028.
