(Rights Defense Network Information Center report) On September 7, 2026, this outlet learned that Pastor Lian Xuliang in the Xi'an Fengsheng Church case was released on September 5, 2026.

Xi'an Fengsheng Church has repeatedly faced repression for refusing to accept the control of the Chinese Communist authorities' "Three-Self Church"; in August 2022, Pastor Lian Changnian, Pastor Lian Xuliang and evangelist Fu Juan were placed under residential surveillance at a designated location, where all three were tortured; in March 2023, the three were formally arrested; in April 2025, the coercive measure against the three was changed to residential surveillance at a designated location, and they returned home; the case was heard in court on July 9, 2025, and a verdict has not yet been issued. Surprisingly, while waiting for the court's verdict, the three pastors were formally arrested on November 2, 2025, taken from their homes again and detained at the Weiyang District Detention Center in Xi'an. Pastor Lian Xuliang was released the day before yesterday, September 5, 2026.
