Chengdu Early Rain Covenant Church Preacher Wu Wuqing Returns Home After Being Summoned by Police for More Than 20 Hours

On April 28, 2026, this website learned that shortly after 2 p.m. on April 27, 2026, Wu Wuqing, a preacher at Chengdu Early Rain Covenant Church, and his wife, Xiong Meifang, were summoned by police to a police station and only just returned home after more than 20 hours. Both of their phones were confiscated.

Since the December 9, 2018 church case and the second church case on January 6 this year, Early Rain Church has responded to persecution with the gospel: on the one hand, submitting to and enduring the authorities’ physical persecution, and on the other hand, insisting on public worship and striving to preach the gospel to nonbelievers. The church holds regular Sunday worship services every week, small-group Bible studies during the week, and morning prayers. After the second church case on January 6, 2026, the relevant departments, on the one hand, continued to apply intense pressure to members of Early Rain Church, either directly threatening members or persistently intimidating and threatening their family members, in an effort to force members to leave Early Rain Covenant Church. As for seekers and people intending to transfer to Early Rain Covenant Church, they have adopted almost the same tactics, with the aim of preventing outsiders from entering, forcing those inside to leave, cutting off donations, “starving” the preachers and co-workers, and ultimately making the church disappear.
