Sichuan human rights lawyer Lu Siwei continues to appeal his wrongful conviction; court forcibly deducts 10,000 yuan fine.
On September 29, 2026, our outlet learned that Sichuan human rights lawyer Lu Siwei had previously been sentenced for “illegally crossing the national (border) boundary” and fined 10,000 yuan. After completing his sentence and being released, he continued to appeal, seeking to have the original judgment overturned and to be declared not guilty. Recently, the court deducted the fine from his bank account. Lu Siwei believes this action is connected to his recent reports and complaints against several officials in Sichuan and Chengdu.
According to a statement from Lu Siwei’s wife, Zhang Chunxiao: After Lu Siwei was wrongfully imprisoned for allegedly “illegally crossing the national border,” the Chenghua District Court of Chengdu also ordered him to pay a fine of 10,000 yuan. Siwei believes his case was political persecution and has been appealing it continuously. But recently, the Chenghua Court forcibly deducted 10,000 yuan from his bank card. Siwei believes this is the authorities’ renewed retaliation for his reports that Sichuan Governor Shi Xiaolin, Chengdu Mayor Chen Shuping, Chengdu Public Security Bureau Director Hu Guomin, Chengdu Intermediate People’s Court President Yang Cheng, and others engaged in favoritism and violated the law and abused their power. Siwei’s already difficult circumstances have become even worse. But he will not stop filing complaints about the illegal and criminal conduct of officials at all levels in Chengdu and Sichuan.
Our outlet will continue to follow the situation of lawyer Lu Siwei.
