Beijing Jiaquan Church September 4 Case: Hundreds of Police Raid Church’s 20th Anniversary Celebration; Pastor Zhou Zixun and a Total of Eight Pastors and Church Workers Criminally Detained on Fraud Charges
(Rights Defense Network Information Center report) On September 29, 2026, this website learned of the following notice about an open prayer letter issued by Korean missionary Choi Jin-young, the wife of a pastor: On September 4, 2026, more than 100 police raided a gathering celebrating the 20th anniversary of Beijing Jiaquan Church, and Pastor Zhou Zixun and a total of eight pastors and church workers were criminally detained on fraud charges.
The main contents of Choi Jin-young’s open prayer letter are as follows:
I am Choi Jin-young, the wife of a pastor at Beijing Jiaquan Church, and I am a Korean Christian. When I was 25, I married Pastor Zhou Zixun (birth name Cui Xianfeng). My husband and I studied in the United States together, and after Pastor Zhou graduated from seminary, our family returned to Beijing at the end of 2005. We founded Beijing Jiaquan Church in 2006.
During the past 20 years of ministry, our church has faced several serious instances of persecution and raids, including repeated closure of our worship venues, as well as the denial of my family-reunion visa as the wife of a Chinese national. I have been unable to enter China for three years now.
Despite these difficulties and challenges, through God’s faithfulness, grace, and protection, the clergy of Beijing Jiaquan Church, including Pastor Zhou Zixun (birth name Cui Xianfeng), were able to serve local believers in relative peace until early September 2026.
However, at 5:50 p.m. on September 4, 2026, about 50 members of Beijing Jiaquan Church were setting up a venue in a hotel conference room in preparation for the church’s 20th anniversary celebration the following day when they were suddenly surrounded and trapped by more than 100 police officers (including plainclothes auxiliary police). Most were allowed to go home after their ID numbers, addresses, and phone numbers were recorded, but seven church workers were taken away on the spot.
At the same time, Pastor Zhou, who was out visiting people, was also summoned by state security officers to a police station. A few days later, two of the church workers taken away at the scene were released and went home, but another two church workers were arrested and sent to a detention center as suspects in a fraud case. To date, Pastor Zhou Zixun (birth name Cui Xianfeng) and seven church workers from Beijing Jiaquan Church have all been criminally detained on fraud charges and are being held in a detention center.
I now ask pastors and brothers and sisters who are concerned about this incident to earnestly pray for Pastor Zhou Zixun (birth name Cui Xianfeng) and the seven precious church workers from Beijing Jiaquan Church.
